Delhi Police Head Constable Arrested in Wedding Shooting Case
New Delhi: A Delhi Police head constable and two others have been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a 30-year-old man after a dispute at a wedding function in the Wazirabad area of North Delhi, police officials confirmed on Monday.
The accused, identified as Parvesh, was posted with the Traffic Unit in the Northeast Circle at Bhajanpura. According to officials, he joined the Delhi Police in 2008. Two other accused — his brother Sandeep and brother-in-law Vipin — have also been taken into custody. Another suspect, Vikash, remains absconding.
Incident Reported from Wazirabad
Police said information was received at Wazirabad Police Station regarding a man admitted with a gunshot injury at the Trauma Centre in Timarpur. The victim, identified as Ashish, was declared dead during treatment.
Ashish, a resident of Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh, was brought to the hospital by his younger brother, Anuj. According to Anuj’s statement, the family had travelled to Wazirabad to attend the wedding of a neighbour.
Ashish was employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Enforcement Department.
Alleged Motive: Personal Dispute
In his complaint to police, Anuj alleged that Parvesh suspected Ashish of being in a relationship with his wife, which had allegedly caused tension between them for several months.
Anuj stated that around three to four months ago, Parvesh had raised the issue with their father in the village. Although the matter was reportedly resolved at that time, he claimed the accused continued to threaten Ashish.
According to the complaint, when the family was preparing to return to their village after the wedding function, Parvesh and his associates intercepted Ashish. He was allegedly assaulted with the butt of a pistol and later shot in the chest. The accused fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Investigation and Arrests
Ashish was initially taken to a nearby private medical facility before being referred to the Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A crime team and forensic science laboratory (FSL) team inspected the spot and collected evidence. Police registered a case under Section 103(1) (Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
During the investigation, authorities apprehended Parvesh, Sandeep, and Vipin. The licensed pistol allegedly used in the crime has been recovered.
Police officials confirmed that further investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused.
Legal Action and Next Steps
The accused are currently in police custody and are being questioned. Authorities are examining forensic evidence and witness statements to establish the sequence of events and determine additional legal liabilities.
Officials stated that strict action will be taken as per law, irrespective of the accused’s position within the police department.
