Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the upcoming ASEAN-East Asia Summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur later this week, according to Malaysian officials. However, an official confirmation from New Delhi is still awaited.
The high-profile summit, scheduled from October 26 to 28, will bring together leaders from across Asia and beyond to discuss regional cooperation, trade, and security.
Adding to the global attention, US President Donald Trump has confirmed his participation, sparking speculation about a potential meeting—formal or informal—between Modi and Trump during the event.
Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan stated that Modi is “likely to attend,” though Indian officials said a final decision will be made by Wednesday.
While PM Modi has rarely skipped past ASEAN-East Asia summits, the current geopolitical climate—particularly the strained India-US ties—adds diplomatic weight to his potential visit.
If confirmed, this visit would reinforce India’s ongoing “Act East Policy”, emphasizing stronger engagement with Southeast Asian nations and regional forums.
